San Francisco is a wonderful vacation destination for the
entire family. There is much to see and do for young and
old.
Many of the best attractions in the city are educational and
are disguised as fun so your kids will not complain. And, if
you have not been to California before, as an adult you will
learn the history of one of the state's most important cities.
There are also many areas around the city you can visit on day
trips by ferry, bus, train, or car. If you like more adventure,
you can charter a boat and cruise around the bay, take sailing
lessons or hang glide.
When you take the entire family along on a vacation, you do
not want your small kids to get cranky and tired from an
overloaded day. Before you go, you should plan the attractions
you want to visit. Include your kids, especially school-age
children and teens in the planning process. Let them choose
some of the attractions you will visit. This makes the vacation
easier on the whole family. Once you have visited San
Francisco, you will want to return so you can plan attractions
for a return visit.
One of the places your children will enjoy is the
Exploratorium. It is a public science museum with many hands-on
activities. This is one place that disguises learning as fun
for both children and adults. The exhibits in this museum have
been created by visual and performing artists as well as
scientists and educators. You may want to put the
Exploratorium at the top of the list to be
enjoyed by the entire family.
Pier 39 at Fisherman's Wharf is an excellent place to visit
on your vacation. It features the Magic Carpet Ride for the
whole family and the little ones will enjoy the Carousel. You
can take a powerboat or sailboat ride, play video games at the
Riptide Arcade or visit the largest attraction, the Aquarium of
the Bay. The Aquarium is located at the edge of Pier 39 and
focuses on local aquatic animals such as sharks and other
animals found in San Francisco Bay and the surrounding waters.
Fisherman's Wharf is alo known for its seafood restaurants.
Just across the bridge in Oakland is Children's Fairyland,
U.S.A. It is the first theme park in the United States created
for families with young children. It is spread over 10 acres
and features the oldest, continuously operated puppet theater
in the United States. The admission is inexpensive and
this will be a highlight of the trip for the younger members of
the family.
If you like jelly beans, the Jelly Belly Factory tour is
free and operates daily from 9 am to 4 pm. You and the kids
will learn how jelly beans are made.
There are other attractions such as the San Francisco Zoo
and Six Flags Marine World which you and your children will
enjoy.
The best vacation is one in which you and your family can
relax and have a great time. San Francisco is an ideal city to
visit for family time.
