San Francisco is located at the tip of the San Francisco Peninsula with the Pacific Ocean on the west, San Francisco Bay on the east, and the Golden Gate Strait to the north.

When planning your trip to San Francisco, consider the time of year you want to visit. The city has mild temperatures year round with a lot of sunshine. November to April is generally the coolest period and is considered its rainy season. The city is known for its fog which generally engulfs the western half of the city during the spring and early San Franciscosummer.

There is much to see and to do in San Francisco. Famous for its hills, areas around the city are named for them such as Nob Hill, Russian Hill, Pacific Heights, and Telegraph Hill. There are a number of islands within the boundaries of San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean including Alcatraz and Treasure Island.

If you are looking for activities during your stay, you may want to consider a trolley car tour, Alcatraz Island tour, the Presidio, the Conservatory of Flowers at Golden Gate Park, wine tasting and winery tours, concerts and cultural events, plays and musicals, as well as thoroughbred racing at Golden Gate Fields.

It is difficult to narrow your list of things to see and do because there is so much to attract you to the city. You can take a tour of Pier 39 at Fisherman's Wharf or a tour of the Filoli Estates. Or you can take a tour of Hearst Castle, the dream home of William Randolph Hearst.

Roaring Camp Railroads offers two train tours. One is the steam train excursion through towering Redwood trees to the summit of Bear Mountain. The second is the beach tour traveling through Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.
